Hopkins County Schools is sponsoring the Rachel’s Challenge Community Event at 5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 6, at Glema Mahr Center for the Arts. District employees will take part in the program during Superintendent’s Day activities earlier that day. Rachel’s Challenge is a program inspired by Rachel Scott, the first person killed at Columbine High School on April 20, 1999. Rachel’s acts of kindness and compassion coupled with the con-tents of her six diaries have become the foundation for what’s been called "the most life-changing school program in America." Rachel’s Challenge motives people to make a positive change in how they treat others. The program, founded by Darrell Scott, Rachel’s father, is credited with preventing more than 350 suicides since 2008, drastically reducing bullying, and preventing six school shootings. Everyone is invited to attend. For more information, go to www.rachelschallenge.org. |
