As part of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s 2012 campaign, Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over, the Owensboro Police Department will be out in force between December 13, 2012 and January 1, 2013 to crack down on Impaired Driving. In addition to patrol units working to keep the roads safe, we will also employ traffic safety check points throughout the campaign period.

The holiday season is filled with family gatherings, company parties, and other social events that may include alcohol. We want to remind all drivers to be safe this year. Here are some tips to accomplish just that:


Designate a sober driver


Use a taxi or public transportation


If you’re the host of the party and observe an impaired person, don’t let them get behind the wheel, help them make other arrangements so they
arrive at their destination safely


If you observe a drunk driver on the road, call law enforcement immediately
