About Zander:

Born on a hot August day in Chicago sometime during the 60's, he grew up never far from a transistor radio.  As an early teen he got his first stereo (with 8-track deck!) and started ruining his hearing from that day on.  His very first 8-track? - the debut VAN HALEN album in 1978.  In his formative years he listened to some great rock radio stations in Chicago...WLS, WLUP, WMET, WXRT, WCKG.  It wasn't long before he knew what he wanted to do.

After studying radio broadcasting at Columbia College in Chicago, he got his start at a corn field radio station 70 miles outside of the city playing Adult Contemporary hits.  It was a start.  Two years later he launched his rock radio career as a weekend talent at the heritage, but now deceased rocker, WQFM in Milwaukee.  In 1994 he was part of what would become one of the first active rock stations in the country, WRCX ROCK 103-5 in Chicago.

After a brief stop in morning at WYMG in Springfield, he came back to the city and worked at WCBR and WCKG, the latter being a station he listened to as a teen.  It was there in the fall of 1997 he allowed the freedom to bring to the radio and idea he had for a rock radio show spotlighting the decade of the 80's. He called it “Rock Of The 80’s’. It did well as a late-night feature on the air in Chicago. After a brief stop at WXXY, Zander was hired at WLUP – 9.79 The Loop in 2000 (another station he grew up listening to!). He brought his 80’s show with him to more success.

In 2004, Zander formed his own company and offered the show (renamed The Rockin’ 80’s) nationally. After a three year stint in the Los Angeles market as Program Director at KLKX and KKZQ, he left the desert to return to Chicago to launch his Rockin’ 70’s show in March 2009. In January of 2011, he accepted an offer from Next Media he couldn’t refuse…the position of Program Director of WERV Aurora/Chicago. In August he was given another station to run by the powers that be, WRXQ Joliet/Chicago. This is now where he resides on-air, doing afternoons weekdays from 3p-7p.
