Area Seniors Awarded Farm Bureau Scholarships



Louisville, KY (June 8, 2012) – Ashley Flener, a senior at Hopkins County Central High School, and Morgan Hestand and Nicole Taylor, both seniors at Madisonville North Hopkins High School, are the 2012 recipients of college scholarships from Kentucky Farm Bureau. Hestand and Taylor both received a $2,000 Hopkins County Farm Bureau Scholarship, while Flener received a $4,000 Hopkins County Scholarship. These awards are three of the 234 college scholarships worth a total of $302,450 that the Hopkins County Farm Bureau, Kentucky Farm Bureau Education Foundation and numerous other individual county Farm Bureaus awarded this year to deserving students from across the Commonwealth.

After graduating, Flener plans to attend Western Kentucky University to major in animal science and pursue a career as a veterinarian. She is the daughter of Greg and Lee Ann Flener of Madisonville, KY.

Hestand intends to major in chemical engineering with a minor in mathematics at the University of Kentucky in order to pursue a career as a pharmacist. She is the daughter of Tammy and Matt Davis of Madisonville, KY.

Taylor plans to study at Madisonville Community College for a degree special education with a minor in elementary education so she may pursue a career as a special needs teacher. She is the daughter of Gary and Lori Taylor of Hanson, KY.

The scholarships, offered annually, are awarded to recipients who display the greatest levels of academic excellence, involvement in extracurricular activities, leadership abilities and financial need.

Louisville, KY (June 8, 2012) – Two-hundred and thirty four Kentucky students have been chosen to receive college scholarship grants totaling $302,450 from county and state programs administered through the Kentucky Farm Bureau Education Foundation and by individual county Farm Bureaus.
The scholarships, offered annually, were awarded to recipients who displayed the greatest levels of academic excellence, involvement in extracurricular activities, leadership abilities and financial need. Scholarship sponsors and the recipients are:

Sam Moore Scholarship – $4,000
Awarded to a student attending a Kentucky college/university and pursuing a four-year degree in animal health/veterinary technology or a related field.

Leadership in Agriculture Scholarships – $3,000 each
Awarded to students of farm families attending a Kentucky college or university.

Paul D. Everman Fund for Lifetime Learning Scholarship – $3,000
Awarded to a non-traditional student who is interested in pursuing a four-year course of study at a Kentucky college/university.

Kentucky Farm Bureau Young Farmer Scholarship – $2,000
Awarded to a college upperclassman for the 2011-12 school year. Student must be attending a Kentucky college/university and majoring in agriculture or a related field.
