Notes from Monday's Madisonville City Council Meeting

THE MADISONVILLE CITY COUNCIL VOTED YES TO A 2ND READING OF A REVISED ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGE ORDINANCE.  MOST OF THE ORDINANCE WAS WHAT THE CITY NEEDED TO DO TO BE IN LINE WITH NEW STATE REGULATIONS.  PART OF THAT IS THE NEW RULE THAT ALLOWS LIQUOR STORES TO BE OPEN ON ELECTION DAY.  ALSO IN THE ORDINANCE WAS A NEW ALCOHOL LICENSE FOR THE BALLARD CONVENTION CENTER.
CITY FINANCE CHIEF COREY ALEXANDER REPOTED THAT TAX RECEIPTS WERE UP TO ONE MILLION-ONE HUNDRED-EIGHTY THOUSAND DOLLARS.  THAT IS 85 PERCENT OF THE EXPECTED TOTAL AND ON TRACK WITH LAST YEAR.
IN OTHER ACTION, THE COUNCIL VOTED TO TABLE AN ORDINANCE THAT WOULD GRANT A 3 YEAR FRANCHISE FOR PRIVATE BUSINESS GARBAGE PICKUP.  AND THE COUNCIL VOTED 4 TO 2 TO HAVE A SPECIAL CALLED MEETING TO REZONE PARTS OF NORTH DAVES STREET FROM GENERAL COMMERCIAL TO MEDIUM DENSITY RESIDENTIAL.
