Hopkins County School Board Meeting Notes from Tuesday



     HOPKINS COUNTY SCHOOL SUPERINTENDANT LINDA ZELLICH BRIEFED THE BOARD OF EDUCATION ON THE DRAFT BUDGET FOR THE NEXT SCHOOL YEAR.  ZELLICH SAID THE TOTAL BUDGET IS 52.6 MILLION WITH A PROJECTED
68 PERCENT COMING FROM THE STATE, 25 PERCENT FROM LOCAL TAXES, AND 7 PERCENT FROM WASHINGTON.
  ZELLICH ALSO SAID THAT IF FUNDS FROM STATE AND FEDERAL SOURCES CONTINUE TO DECLINE, LOCAL REVENUE WOULD HAVE TO RAISE.  SHE NOTED THAT PROPERTY TAX RATES HAVE NOT GONE UP SINCE 2004.
     THE BOARD ALSO REVIEWED THE 2014-15 SCHOOL CALENDAR.  ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDANT SHARI WINSTEAD SAID SURVEY RESULTS SUPPORTED A SCHOOL YEAR FROM AUGUST 6TH TO MAY 18TH, WITH A FALL BREAK WEEK STARTING ON OCTOBER 6TH.
