MCC to Host Evening Voices on Valentines Day

Madisonville Community College’s Cultural Diversity Committee will be hosting “Evening Voices” on Friday, February 14, beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the Byrnes Auditorium located on MCC’s Health Sciences Campus at 750 North Laffoon Street in Madisonville.

The Destiny Theatre Experience will present “God’s Trombones,” written by James Weldon Johnson and directed by Shawn Whitsell.  Mr. Johnson was a leading figure of the Harlem Renaissance, and one of the most revered African Americans of all time, whose life demonstrated the full spectrum of struggle and success. In “God's Trombones,” one of his most celebrated works, inspirational sermons of African American preachers are reimagined as poetry, reverberating with the musicality and splendid eloquence of the spirituals. This classic collection includes “Listen Lord: A Prayer,” “The Creation,” “The Prodigal Son,” “Go Down Death: A Funeral Sermon,” “Noah Built the Ark,” “The Crucifixion,” “Let My People Go,” and “The Judgment Day.”

There is no charge for admission; donations accepted.   For more information about the event, please contact Silas Matchem at 270.824.1738.
