Madisonville, KY - The City of Madisonville, in partnership with Baptist Health and the Hopkins County Tourist and Convention Commission, announces that the 14th anniversary of the free concert series, Friday Night Live, kicks off on Friday, June 13th in downtown Madisonville with a new earlier start time of 5:00 PM and more vendor spaces available. This year the Friday Night Live events take place on June 13th, July 11th, and August 8th with activities from 5 – 10 PM each evening.
Daron Jordan, Community Development Director for the City of Madisonville, stated “We are pleased to continue the partnership with Baptist Health and the Hopkins County Tourist and Convention Commission to present the 2014 edition of Friday Night Live. With these partnerships, we can continue to promote the downtown area as a place of community gathering and to grow this annual event. The popularity of Friday Night Live continues to grow due in no small part through these community collaborations that help underwrite the annual costs associated with hosting Friday Night Live and allowing it to remain a no charge event.”
Jordan also stated, “Media and community partnership play a very important role in the success of the event and allow us to promote Friday Night Live throughout the region. The media and community partners that have signed on for the 2014 FNL series include - the Messenger, ESPN Radio 1310 AM, 106.9 FM WTTL, Howdy 97.7, Power Rock 93.9 WKTG, WFMW 730 AM, SurfKY Newsgroup, and Hampton Inn & Suites, Madisonville Hopkins County Chamber of Commerce, and the Glema Mahr Center for the Arts.”
The 2014 edition of Friday Night Live will include a 5 PM start time (1 hour earlier than previous years) in order to allow more local acts to perform. Jordan noted that “the area is rich in musical talent and the ability to showcase more of this local talent, plus community requests to extend the length of the FNL events, led to providing the extra hour of entertainment.” In response to requests for more vendor space availability Jordan confirmed that the location for vendors moves from Court Street to East Center Street.
This summer many of the events that have been popular in previous years return to coincide with Friday Night Live. The events include the Hopkins County UK Alumni 5K road race and 1 ½ mile fun walk in June, the Motorcycle Cruise-in/Show in July, and the Classic Car Show organized by the Show-N-Go Car Club in August. Like previous summers the Crime Stoppers will again have their annual campaign kick-off at the June event and the United Way will host their annual campaign kick-off at the August event. All three Friday Night Live events will again feature the Fire Department’s Kids Obstacle Course and a “Beer Garden” sponsored by the Madisonville Hopkins County Chamber of Commerce.
This year’s entertainment will have some familiar groups return as “Barry Potter and the Hoscats”, “Ray
Ligon”, and “The Pat Ballard Band” will all perform in June. In addition, Hopkins County native “Boscoe”
France, the 2012 Guitar Center Battle of the Blues national contest winner, will headline in July. Wrapping up
the summer will be a commemoration to the 50th anniversary of the “Beatles U.S. Invasion” as the “Sweat
Beats” (a Beatles tribute band) close out the summer series. The remaining musical acts will be announced at a
Friday Night Live also helps local non-profits, schools, and church groups raise funds by allowing them to set
up booths during the event. Jordan noted, “The event has gained great popularity with local non-profits and we
generally sell out of vendor space for the whole summer by the middle of May. This year we have added
additional vendor space to accommodate the increase in requests. Potential vendors need to remember that
vendor food sales are restricted to only local non-profit organizations. However, we do allow other entities to
sale non-food related items as long as they have a City of Madisonville business license.” All vendor spaces are
reserved on a first come, first reserved space and do not have access to power or water hookups. Fees for vendor
spaces vary depending on vendor status as a non-profit or not. Potential vendors are encouraged to not delay in
getting their vendor application submitted in order to secure their spot.
